Description

Filipendula ulmaria, Rosaceae family.

Commonly known as meadowsweet or mead wort, it is a perennial herb that grows in damp meadows with small creamy white flowers and a pleasant scent and flavour. Well known during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Meadowsweet is experiencing a revival through the study of its many properties. The flowering tops contain methyl salicylate, salicylic aldehyde, glucosides, flavonoids and tannins. Traditionally used to relieve flu, rheumatism, headaches and to aid in the healing of wounds. 

Also stimulates perspiration, urinary excretion and biliary secretion.

Use & Special precautions

Preparation

steep 5 g (1 tablespoon) per cup for 10 min and make sure not to boil. Drink 3 or 4 cups a day outside of meals.

Properties and beneficial combinations

- to relieve joint pain: blend with blackcurrant, 5 g of each plant per cup. Drink 3 or 4 cups a day.

- instructions for sinusitis: drink 4 or 5 cups of Meadowsweet infusion per day outside of meals and sprinkle 2-3 drops of Niaouli essential oil on a tissue to inhale 4 or 5 times a day.

Do not use in case of allergy to salicylates. (aspirin)
