Description
Lippia citriodora (Aloysia triphylla), Verbenaceae family.
Common names include lemon verbena and lemon beebrush.
Native to South America, it was brought to Europe by the Spanish and the Portuguese in the 17th century and cultivated for its oil. It has long fragrant leaves and is cultivated for its medicinal values, its fresh lemony aroma and its decorative virtues. Aromatic Verbena is traditionally used to ease and facilitate digestion. The plant contains flavonoids, phenolic acids and an essential oil mainly composed of citral which gives it its characteristic smell.

Preparation
add 5 g (1 pinch) for 25 cl of water, infuse for 5 minutes and drink one cup after each meal.
Properties and beneficial combinations
- to aid digestion: infuse 10 min with 5 Chamomile flowers. Drink after meals or in cases of intestinal spasms.
- as a herbal tea: add 5 g (1 pinch) of Peppermint per cup for a full-bodied aroma and a stronger, slightly sedative effect on digestion.
