Description

Thymus vulgaris, Lamiaceae family .

Common wild thyme.

A shrub commonly found in the Mediterranean shrubland on calcareous soils to which it owes much of its powerful scent. Its coiled leaves distinguish it from wild thyme types that prefer acidic soils. Its pink or white flowers bloom along the stem, nestled in among the leaves. . Thyme is traditionally used to improve slow digestion and bloating, as well as coughs, hoarseness, colds and flus. It contains flavonoids, thymol, carvacrol, linalool, eucalyptol. A herb used in traditional Provençal cooking.

Use & Special precautions

Preparation 

Add 3 g (1 pinch) for 25 cl of water and infuse for 5 minutes. Drink 3 cups a day. Add 10 g (1 tablespoon) in a bowl of boiling water for inhalations.

Properties and beneficial combinations

- to aid digestion: infuse for 10 min with 5 Chamomile flowers, or for 5 min with a pinch of Verbena.

- to soothe the throat: combine with 1 pinch of Lavender and add a little honey. Sip throughout the day.
